A businessman hailing from Chandigarh strangulated his wife and killed her. In order to dispose her body to avoid any suspicions he drove her in the car, along with him in the front seat after fastening the seat belt to Hoshiarpur, Punjab, where he intended to dump her body.

To ensure that she is dead, he set her body on fire after pouring petrol on her body. The police have arressted Vajinder Singh and speculated that he was having a extramarital relationship with Renu and that his wife was the only obstacle in his relationship with his new mistress. He, the police said, drove for 3 hours and covered a distance of 100 kms. Renu was also an accomplice in the murder and she was also arrested by the police.

Pooja, alias Suresh Kumari, was found lying in a deserted forest area in Hoshiarpur district on Thursday. In the six years of marriage with Pooja, Vijayender had illicit relationship with Renu for more than 3 years.

Pooja was murdered on 13th July and a case of missing person was lodged by Vajinder's father on the same day.

Police have suspected foul play by Vajinder after Pooja's brother Prem Chand had informed the police of the illegal relationship of Vajinder with another woman. He also had said that his sister could have been killed by Vajinder. After intense interrogation by Chandigarh SSP Nau Nihal Singh, Vajinder cracked and confessed his crime.
