Why Indian cars lack European safety Standards?

Though India is considered as one of the largest automobile markets in the world, unfortunately, no regulations followed for the safety standards of automobiles in the country.

In fact, this is one of the major reasons for the increase in the number of accidents, every year.

With the increase in demand for the consumption of automobiles, the authorities are finding tough to match at least minimum safety standards.

New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) is a governing body that works as a watchdog for safety and quality standards in the new cars.

Currently, NCAP has got its administration in the European Union, US, Latin America, Australia and recently China.

The Global NCAP, in the past, has got to have 5 entry-level hatchbacks from the Indian market for its safety tests.

Cars like Tata Nano, Maruti Suzuki Alto800, Hyundai i10, Ford Figo and Volkswagen Polo, underwent the safety tests. Among those, only VW Polo and Ford Figo showed the good results.

The recent EU NCAP test result of Bajaj Qute proved that, the Indian made automobiles are showcasing very poor safety standards.

The negligence of the authorities is one of the main reasons behind this low standards. However, recently, one can notice the air bags standard on its upcoming models, proving that they are concerned about the safety too.
