Tokyo Olympics: Lovlina Borgohain wins Bronze for India:- Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain is the second Indian woman boxer to win a bronze medal for the country after Mary Kom. Lovlina Borgohain brought the second bronze medal for the country in the Tokyo Olympics 2021 after ace shuttler PV Sindhu. Lovlina Borgohain lost to Busenaz Surmeneli today in the 69kg welterweight in the semifinal. Mary Kom won the first bronze medal for India in 2012 during the London Olympics. Lovlina Borgohain was outpunched by Busenaz with a dominating performance. Lovlina Borgohain hails from Assam was deducted a point for not paying attention to the referee. Lovlina Borgohain was short of eight points in the third round.
The 23-year-old Lovlina Borgohain is the third Indian boxer to have a podium finish after Vijendar Singh in 2008 and Mary Kom in 2012. The country lauded the achievement of Lovlina Borgohain through twitter and other social media platforms. In a virtual press conference, Lovlina Borgohain said that she could not execute her strategy calling her opponent strong. "I wanted to hit her confidence but it did not work out. She was relentless and that turned out to be my problem" told Lovlina Borgohain. She also said that she wanted to win a gold medal for the country and was disappointed. So far in the Tokyo Olympics, India has one silver and two bronze medals.
