New record: Century in 21 balls

Iraq Thomas, a 23 year old cricketer has created a record, witnessing fastest century, in just 21 balls in the Tobago Cricket Association’s T20 tournament at Louis D’or.

Representing Scraborough/Mason Hall, in a match played on Sunday, Thomas remained unbeaten on 131 off just 31 balls, to help his side chase down Speyside’s target of 152 in just 8 overs.

The Tobago batsman slammed 15 sixes and 5 boundaries. Adding to his energy witness, he cleared the park three times and the umpires were forced to bring the new balls.

Thomas first scored 97 off 53 deliveries against Charlotteville, and then went on to play the record knock in the next game.

Speaking to the media, Thomas said, “I was just very happy to reach my first T20 century. I have played cricket for a while and to get this century in the shortest format left me very happy. I played for Queen’s Park in Trinidad, so coming into this tournament I had some good experience having played at that level in Trinidad.”

West Indies star batsman Chris Gayle holds record of hitting fastest 100 in T20, after he did it in just 30 balls against Pune Warriors in the IPL.

In ODIs, South Africa’s AB de Villiers completed century in in just 31 balls and thus set a record.
