The seat sharing understanding between the congress and the DMK is on the verge of collapse as congress has demanded 63 seats instead of 60 as agreed to by it earlier.
DMK chief and chief minister Karunanidhi said last night in Chennai in a media conference that congress had first agreed to 60 seats but upped its demand to 63. “The congress also wants to contest in the constituencies of their choice,” Karunanidhi said, adding that it was not proper for them to do so.
The talks were held in the presence of AICC leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and he agreed to convey the deal details to their party high command after agreeing to 60 seats but he did not turn up for signing the deal, Karunanidhi said. “In stead of turning up for signing the deal, he called up from Delhi to demand 63 seats and also made it clear that they would choose their constituencies,” the DMK chief said expressing his anguish in no uncertain terms over the development.
“Our party will take a decision by Saturday evening on the issue of seat sharing,” a visibly upset Karunanidhi said.
