Ending months of speculation, CBI today arrested Mr Suresh Kalmadi, former Chairman of the Common Wealth Games (CWG) for his role in the alleged irregularities in the conduct of the games.
The 67-year old Kalmadi, who was called for interrogation to the CBI headquarters in the morning, was informed in the evening that he was arrested in connection with the CWG scam.
The arrest of Kalmadi follows the visit to London by a two-member CBI team in connection with Queen Baton Relay (QBR) scam. It is said the team had gathered fresh evidence in relation to the irregularities in hiring AM Films and AM Car and Van Hire Limited during QBR held in 2009 at exorbitant rates.
The CBI investigators had collected documents to prove the overvaluation of the deal from Ashish Patel, the owner of the two companies.
