In en eruption of gang wars among various groups of the Mumbai mafia, rivals belonging to the self proclaimed Hindu don Shetty last night made an unsuccessful attempt on the life of Iqbal Kaskar, brother of the underworld don and India’s number one anti national Dawood Ibrahim who was hiding in Pakistan.
The attempt was made at a restaurant in the busy Nagpada area in the heart of Mumbai city by two young men who came on motor cycle at 9.15 pm.
The young men fired from close range when Kaskar along with his body guard-cum- driver Arif Bael alias Arif Jewellery alias Abu Bakar came out of his Pakmodia Street residence for a stroll after dinner.
Kaskar immediately ducked for cover behind a car parked on the street and survived the attempt but his driver failed to duck and received bullets in his chest, abdomen and temple. He was immediately rushed to the most famous JJ Hospital but doctors pronounced him brought dead.
By standers and Kaskar’s neighbours chased the men and caught hold of the pillion rider who fell off his vehicle when the rider tried to maneuver a curve speedily. The pillion rider is now under the custody of police.
