Kani’s tryst with mosquitoes in Tihar

Kani s tryst with mosquitoes in TiharDMK MP Kanimozhi, who was sent to Tihar Jail Friday evening after being denied bail by the Special CBI court in the 2G spectrum scam, spent most of the first night fighting against mosquitoes in her jail cell.

Jail officials said she went to bed around 11 pm and woke up early in the morning at 5 am, took a bath and had her breakfast of bread slices with butter and tea in the jail canteen. Before leaving for the CBI court at 9 am this morning, Kanimozhi had read some Tamil newspapers.

Her 10 ft by 15 ft cell is next to the one hosting Madhuri Gupta, the junior Indian diplomatic official jailed on charges of spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency. There was no pillow for Kanimozhi in the cell but she had used a rolled up blanket as her pillow and she also requested for a mosquito repellent.

She was dropped in her cell around 4.30 pm on Friday and in the evening Kanimozhi interacted with some Tamil women inmates of the jail, according to jail officials.

A jail official said she would, however, not be allowed to interact with the accused in the 2G Spectrum scam.
