The department of railways on Tuesday issued orders facilitating free travel in local trains for girls pursuing professional and vocational courses.

 

All girls doing MBBS, B.Tech, BE, BBA and BCA courses can travel free of cost in local trains to the nearest point of their colleges from July 1.All eligible girls can collect their free monthly passes from the specified counters in railway stations, said the Railways in a statement in Delhi.

 

The facility was provided in accordance with the promise made by the then Railway Minister Mamatha Banerjee in Parliament during her budget speech.
