Tainted Maran quits cabinet

dayaTextiles Minister Dayanidhi Maran has resigned his cabinet post and left for Chennai this morning, reports from Delhi said.

The resignation comes a day after CBI informed the Supreme Court that Maran had forced Aircel founder C. Sivasankaran to sell his company to Malaysia-based firm Maxis to get in return an investment of nearly Rs 600 crores in his brother’s company Sun TV Direct.

Maran attended a cabinet meeting this morning, his last one, and then submitted his resignation letter to the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and left for the airport in his personal car.

Maran has been facing CBI investigation for his involvement in the allotment of licenses of 2G spectrum when he worked as the Minister for Communications. Sources revealed the day may not be far off when he will also be arrested by the CBI.
