The UP police had ordered a Special Task Force (STF) probe into the alleged phone calls from some persons in Iran to a meat shop owner in Meerut offering a reward of Rs.2 Cr to engineer bomb blasts and riots in the city.
Meat trader Hashim Ilahi approached police saying he got phone calls from numbers + 9837173840, + 3444050 and + 7868970150 during the night hours of July 13 and the callers asked him to conduct bomb blasts promising a reward of Rs 2 Cr if he agreed.
Reports said that the callers must have selected him for the purpose as the last three digits of the meat trader’s phone number was 786 which were considered auspicious in Islam.
