Parliamentary affairs minister PK Bansal said today that the Lok Pal Bill would be introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Minister of state for personnel V Narayana Swamy said that the government had given a notice to the Speaker Meira Kumar to waive off the 2-day notice period to ensure the introduction of the Bill on Thursday.
“She should take the decision now,” he said, adding that all parties wanted the Bill to be introduced in the Parliament as early as possible. “For this purpose only, we have written to the Speaker to waive off the 2-day period,” he said.
Meanwhile, Gandhian and anti corruption crusader Mr. Anna Hazare, who described the Bill as joke pal, threatened to undertake an indefinite fast from August 16 as announced earlier demanding the introduction of a stronger Lok Pal Bill.
The Lok Pal Bill, to be introduced by the government, keeps the Prime Minister, higher judiciary and the conduct of the MPs in the Parliament outside the purview of the Ombudsman.
