The Maharashtra government is seriously considering a suggestion of the Centre to order a CBI probe into the reported sale of 4532 square meters of Wakf land in Malabar Hill of the Mumbai City where the country’s top industrialist Mr Mukesh Ambani built his 27-storied mansion ‘Antilla’.
Wakf minister Mohammed Arif Naseem Khan informed the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today that the Centre had asked the state government to consider ordering a probe into the reported sale of the Wakf land to M/S Antillia Commercial Pvt Ltd owned by Mukesh Ambani.
“The suggestion came in December 2010 and, after obtaining the opinion of the law and justice department, the file was sent to the state home minister for further action.
The minister told the members that the site was reserved for providing educational facilities for the children of Khoja muslim community but the Karimbhai Ibrahimbhai Khoja orphanage trust had sold off the property to the Karimbhai Ibrahimbhai Khoja for Rs 21.5 Cr in 2002 without informing the Wakf board.
Later, the top industrialist Mr Mukesh Ambani served a notice to the purchasing company M/S Antillia Commercial Pvt Ltd on April 22, 2004 asking it to return the land. However, the Board withdrew its notice after the Karimbhai Ibrahimbhai Khoja orphanage deposited Rs 16 lakh with the board on March 23, 2005.
Ambani, who bought the huge plot worth Rs. 500 Cr for a meager Rs.21 Cr, had constructed a 27-storey skyscraper, said to be one of the most expensive residences in the world, on the piece of land.
