In an effort to end the impasse surrounding the Lok Pal Bill, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today held high level discussions on the indefinite fast undertaken by the Gandhian Anna Hazare.
Anna Hazare began the fast seven days ago and shifted his fasting venue from the Tihar Jail to the Ramlila Maidan demanding the introduction of Jan Lok Pal Bill which covers even the Prime Minister.
Congress party senior leaders and key cabinet ministers participated in the discussions but the details of the meeting have not yet come out. The PM has been hinting at solving the issue through a dialogue with Hazare and his team.
Earlier, speaking at the golden jubilee function of the Indian Institute of Management in Kolkata this morning, Manmohan Singh said the government was open to a reasoned debate on the Lok Pal Bill and the Parliamentary committee would examine the suggested changes to the Bill introduced in the Parliament.
