The Daily Mail said that the untraceable Libyan strongman Mr Muammar Gaddafi could be hiding in Zimbabwe.
According to the report, Gaddafi might have arrived in Harare last Wednesday by a private jet of Zimbabwe president Mugabe. However, the President’s spokesman George Charamba dismissed the report as false and said Gaddafi might never come to Zimbabwe.
When asked what could be his country’s response in case Gaddafi sought asylum, he said he would not answer hypothetical questions. It might be mentioned that speculation was rife in recent days that Zimbabwe could provide a safe haven for Gaddafi.
The paper said that the Harare city went without power on Wednesday and probably this must have been done at the behest of the Government to hide the arrival of Gaddafi.
The Daily Mail said in its report that Gaddafi was spotted arriving in the country by political rivals of Mugabe. They have seen him moving in a motorcade to the Gunhill suburb of Harare where the Libyan leader reportedly owns a huge farm house.
Meanwhile, reports said that Muammar Gaddafi’s wife and three of his children fled Libya to neighboring Algeria on Monday.
