Nairobi oil fire kills 102 people

OilFire102 people were killed and several others sustained serious burn injuries in a fire that broke out along an oil pipeline at a fuel depot on the outskirts of Nairobi today, capital city of Kenya.

The fast spread of the fire has hampered rescue operations, an FM radio reported. Emergency and fire fighting vehicles are finding it difficult to take up rescue measures. The fire accident occurred in an industrial area where several factories and offices of British and United States-based companies are situated.

Reports said that the accident has occurred in a slum area where slum dwellers were indulging in theft of oil which is the usual practice there. Government’s efforts to relocate the slum dwellers have come to naught.
