President of India Ms. Pratibha Patil led the nation in remembering the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, considered by many in the world as ‘iron lady’ on her 27th death anniversary today.
Pratibha Patil visited Shakti Sthal, the memorial of Gandhi in Delhi, and paid floral tributes early morning.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi were also present on the occasion.
Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her body guards on October 31, 1984 after she had ordered ‘Operation Blue Star’ to crush secessionist movement in Punjab and sent troops into the Golden Temple of Amritsar.
Several top congress leaders and union ministers were among those who visited the memorial and paid floral tributes to the great leader.
