TN opposes PM inclusion in Lok Pal, Lokayuktas must not be forced on the states

The opinion of the leader of the ruling party AIADMK in Tamil Nadu was vehemently dealt by the party members in the debate at the Lok Sabha in Delhi on Tuesday. The members announced a firm stance against the inclusion of the Prime Minister within the ambit of Lok Pal. They added that the appointment of Lokayuktas in the states must not be forced and must be left at the discretion of the states.

It was AIADMK member M. Thambidurai who raised his voice on the stands adopted by the party in the debate at the Lok Sabha on the Lok Pal bill. He said the party intended to move amendments on provisions relating to inclusion of Prime Minister within the Lokpal ambit and appointment of Lokayuktas.

He said the party also opposed provisions which require presiding officers of the two houses to inform Lok Pal on complaints regarding members. "This is a very serious matter... This was not recommended by standing committee," Thambidurai said. "I am for Lok Pal, not for Lokayukta," he added.
