Delhi road may be named after Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar

Well very soon in Delhi you may come across with a street in the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar's name. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi considering naming a street in the Sachin Tendulkar's name.

Infact it is a suggestion from a counsellor to rename Chandni Chowk as Tendulkar Chowk.

On Tuesday December 3 Mayor Rajni Abbi today said that from thousands of people Municipal Corporation of Delhi has obtained representations to honour Sachin Tendulkar but no decision has been taken yet.

Mayor Rajni Abbi said "There are demands for naming a street or square after Tendulkar. A meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi House on January 11 may consider these demands,"

Chandni Chowk counsellor Suman Kumar Gupta is planning to move a resolution seeking the renaming of Chandni Chowk to Tendulkar Chowk.

Built in 17th century by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan and designed by his daughter Jahan Ara, Chandni Chowk was once divided by canals to reflect moonlight, but closed now.

However, the move has attracted criticism from some quarters.

They point out that roads are named only posthumously.

Barring a road in the name of Nelson Mandela, not a single stretch in the capital is named after a living person.

Jagdish Mamgain Committee Chairman of Municipal Corporation of Delhi said that there are even other people who entitle for the honour. As he said well in terms of contribution to Delhi, the other person who deserves for it is E Sreedharan who is more than Sachin Tendulkar.
