Kalmadi bail: flutter in IOA, Pune Congress

The release on bail of Suresh Kalmadi, former Congress leader, has turned tension in IOA and equally in Pune, as elections were on for Civic posts.

Well as my Grand Maa used to say good for someone could be bad for someone else, and also as per Newton every action has equal opposite action seems to come true, even in our day to day activity. Poor Suresh Kalmadi had been released from Tihar Jail on bail, after serving nine months imprisonment for the Timing-Scoring-Result (TSR) system scam in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2010. But now the Congress in Pune is tensed, as his popularity in the region would play a mighty role in the forthcoming civic polls. Whether to resist or assist is the dilemma prevailing, as the leader was denounced by the Congress, while in jail.

Congress state President Manikrao Thackre said, "Kalmadi has already been suspended from the party so we do not want him to campaign for the party in Pune elections, but we are aware that a large number of candidates in Pune and other areas are his followers so if he comes out on the field to help them we cannot do anything."

Leaving the politics aside it is also similar situation in Indian Olympic Association, for which Sureshji was the President till he was arrested. But the irony is that neither the IOA nor any officials have launched any complaint against the former Pune MP, nor has he resigned the post. Some feel he is eligible to take over. But his detractors feel his resuming would taint the association.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) Vice-President Tarlochan Singh felt, "It is up to him if he wants to return as president. No one has complained against Kalmadi in the General Body Meeting." “He (Kalmadi) has already spent nine months in jail. This is also a good lesson for the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and it has proved that there is no strong case against him. The bail also proves that CBI has found nothing against him,” added the Mr. Singh

In the meantime our source says Sureshji, plans to be very busy over the next few months. He is understood to be planning to write a book about the Commonwealth Games, and will try to play a lead role in the municipal elections in his hometown of Pune.

It may be noted that Sureshji along with ten others have been accused of allegedly awarding a contract to the Swiss firm Swiss Timing to install the TSR system at an exorbitant rate causing a loss of over Rs 90 Cr to the exchequer. (With inputs from Internet) (AarKay)
