India’s Toxic Import from Canada, Asbestos

Asbestos is a conglomerate of six naturally occurring silicate materials, used for roofing in India. It is the source of respiratory problems say experts.

The Indian government has massive plans to import Asbestos from Canada. The imported minerals shall be made to sheets, which are widely used for commercial establishments. That means more factories shall come out and the existing would enhance production of sheets from the imported raw material. But worldwide Asbestos has been denounced due to respiratory problems which might affect the lungs and lead to cancer. The irony is that Canada which has a ban for this product is exporting ship loads to India.

Though the respiratory problems are quite significant in India but probably not many diagnosed for the use of asbestos. This has been for the benefit of the product.  Now further imports on a regular basis could ensure increase in respiratory problems in the near future.

Experts believe that inhaling asbestos fibers can lead to a slow and painful death. And hence the Asbestos is known as a deadly toxic product, globally. Workers have little safety equipment and if they contract a respiratory disease or cancer, few are paid compensation.
