Is anti nuke funded from outside? German deported

Koodankulam nuke protests in Tamil Nadu have been under fire from some time, the fierce accusations of funds for the funds came under sharp criticism from the PMO, too.

Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP), in the Koodankulam village near the Idinthakarai hamlet of Tirunelveli district, Tamil Nadu had been reeling under tension since some time. The protests lead by People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy, spearheaded by its convener, S P Udayakumar. The government since some time felt that there was global agency funding the protests, as evident by the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s interview to a science journal recently.  A German National, Sonnteg Reiner Hermann was deported back to his home country on charges of raising funds against KNPP, based on a tip off from Central Agencies, on Monday. Sonnteg was regularly in contact with PMANE and stayed in a hotel at Nagercoil. Police say they have telephone records based on which they took the action.

He was brought to Chennai on Monday evening where immigration officials said they cancelled his tourist visa, adding that he would be deported early on Tuesday. "We had been watching his movements and found that he was sourcing funds for activists in Tamil Nadu. We collected Hermann's mobile phone call details and found that he was in touch with Lalmohan, a close aide of Udayakumar who is leading the anti-nuclear agitation in Kudankulam," a government official said.

The over Rs. 1300 Cr Indo Russian plant, with twin reactor was ready for trials of its first reactor, when the fishermen of the hamlet rose against the plant. They turned out in thousands and protested against the plant fearing a disaster on the lines of Fukushima Daiichi plant, Japan. An expert committee was formed by the central government to emphasize on the world best safety measures adhered by the plant. But talks between the experts and the PMANE repeatedly failed.
