Sunita Aralikar makes every Indian proud the lady with steel will to combat against social evils against women, stood by her principles despise tough hurdles.
The Maharashtra Lady Sunita Aralikar is well known by women for her pure and unchartered social service. The social worker and crusader against social evils on women, has pioneered in many issues. The latest is she will receive the Women's Achievers' Award from the Young Environmentalists Programme Trust at a function in Mumbai today. The crusader has performed nearly 90 inter-caste marriages. She has also successfully contested in six local administrative elections and is presently the director of the Maharashtra Housing Finance Corporation. As recalled by the social worker, her pillar of strength had been her husband Dilip Aralikar.
But it was not all bed of roses for Sunita, she suffered death threats from her own father who despised her, being a girl baby. Twice he had attempted to kill her, but she escaped. First he buried her alive soon after her mother’s death, when she was nine. Her uncle pulled her out and took her to his house. Later when she was 14, her father sent goons to kill her. Another time she escaped and these things had taken a toll on her, which led to her combat against the evil.
The author of Hirkanicha Birhad (Hirkani's House) written in Marathi, right now lives in Latur in Maharashtra. Hirkani was a simple, brave milk seller at the fort of Chhatrapati Shivaji and gained fame when she scaled down the steep mountain slope of Raigad to return to her child in the village below. This book is an autobiography. In addition to this she has avidly written articles to local papers.
