Brahmos supersonic missile test fired successfully

Indian army, aided by Defence scientists, successfully test fired the surface-to-surface version of the Brahmos supersonic cruise missile from the test range at Chandipur off Odisha today.

The test firing of the two-stage missile took place from a ground mobile launcher at the launch complex-3 around 11.22 a.m., said a Defence scientist after the launch.

The missile, with a flight range of 290 km, was test fired as part of the user trials for the Indian army. It can carry a conventional warhead of 200 to 300 kg during its flight. 

The missile has already been inducted into the Navy and has become operational since 2005.It has become fully operational with two regiments of the Army. The Ministry of Defence has already ordered the army to deploy the missiles in Arunachal Pradesh along the China border.

The missile’s air and submarine versions are being developed now. (J)
