Maoists likely to release Paolo today

Maoist Party of Odisha unit that has held captive Italian national Paolo Bosusco is likely to handover him to the media today, sources said. It may be recalled that Paolo was a tourist and was abducted by Maoists 29 days ago.  Our sources have also said that Paolo has already been set free last night itself and is now in near Gajapathi district border.

Paolo may be handed over at anytime. However, there has been no official statement over the same.  It has to be mentioned here that Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda who negotiated talks over the release of Paolo has yesterday gave an audio message stating that Maoist Party would be releasing Paolo on Thursday in a democratic process.

March 14 was the day that Paolo along with Claudio was abducted by Maoists. While Claudio was set free, Paolo Basusco was held captive. Maoists placed before the Odisha Government a few demands over the release of Paolo. Release of Panda’s wife Subhashree Das was also included in the list of demands. It is known that a fast track court recently released Panda’s wife and quashed a case against her. After the release Das said that the Government had nothing to do with her release. (Phani)
