Mrs. Soni said, the interests of the viewers would be the topmost priority in the ongoing reforms in the broadcasting sector. She said that it has to be ensured that the growth in the sector should be made inclusive.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni has said that digitization of Cable TV will offer more options and choices to the television viewers. Speaking at the 6th Annual Summit on Entertainment & Media in New Delhi on Friday, Mrs. Soni said, the interests of the viewers would be the topmost priority in the ongoing reforms in the broadcasting sector. She said that it has to be ensured that the growth in the sector should be made inclusive. The Minister also said that some views have come up from different stakeholders on Carriage fees for TV industry and the TRAI will look into it. Mrs. Soni said, around 900 FM Radio stations are to be auctioned. She said the government had also initiated measures to establish four regional centres of Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) at Aizawl, Amravati, Kottayam and Jammu to promote excellence in journalism.
The Minister also said, the government is planning to constitute a committee to look into the mushrooming of media training schools across the country and the quality of education being offered.
