Players sidelined and people caned at Eden Gardens

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s felicitation programme to IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders for winnign IPL-5 has turned out of control at Eden Gardens with fans breaking the barricades. The police caned the 70,000 mob to bring the situation under the control. Sources have said that scores were injured in the lathicharge.

While many newspapers reported that the show was more like a political one than victory celebrations, some news channels aired the visuals of people crying after they got thrashed by the police.

Meanwhile, the reports indicate that the programme to make the victory of IPL-5 came under severe criticism by the media as the players of Kolkata Knight Riders were reportedly sidelined.

It was even reported that the cup of IPL-5 was moving between owners of franchise Shahrukh Khan, Juhi Chawla and the West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee. Mamata Banerjee wanted to celebrate the victory of Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens and she had even said that the entry was free. And in turn a large number of people thronged the stadium that resulted police to resort to lathi charge.

Why is it that Shahrukh Khan, who reacted very loudly at Wankade Stadium remained a mute spectator when the police started caning is the question that has become talk of the town.

We have to wait and see if SRK is going to talk anything on this entire episode.
