Dozens killed in landslides

At least 40 persons were killed in landslides in Bandarbhan of Bangladesh last night. Landslides occurred due to heavy rainfall. The sources said that at least another 1,50,000 persons were stranded in the wild floods. While flights to Chittagong have been cancelled, rescue operations are in full swing to save the stranded citizens. It may be recalled that Chittagong has been witnessing heavy downpour for the past few five days.

Rains accompanied by gusty winds uprooted several trees, collapsed several mudbanks and even a railway bride that disrupted the rain traffic. The officials have reportedly said that several parts of Bangladesh is expected to witness heavy rainfall in next two to three days. They said arrangements are on to evacuate people and ensure no more casualties occur.
