A 1300 year old Mayan Text was discovered recently by Archeologists, which is the second known reference to the “END DATE”, December 21, 2012. This discovery was made at a site in La Corona and could prove to be one of the most important hieroglyphic discoveries in years.
Marcello Canuto, Director of Tlane's Middle American Research Institute and also the Co-director of the excavations being performed at the La Corona said that this text spoke about ancient political history rather than being a prophecy.
The discovery made while working at the site of La Corona in Guatemala is one of the most significant hieroglyphic finds in decades and it was announced at the National Palace in Guatemala.
Barrientos who worked along with Marcello in the La Corona excavations said that “this location was robbed by looters who look for antiquities to be sold in the black market but they had discarded the carved stones which appeared too eroded. But this could also mean we might have lost important pieces of information”. The discovery is the longest known text to be discovered in Gautemala, ever.
The discovered hieroglyphics, as deciphered by David Stuart, the director of the Mesoamerica Center at the University of Texas at Austin, are a reference to a royal visit to the La Corona in 696 AD. The block of stairway contained 56 meticulously carved hieroglyphs. The hieroglyph commemorates the defeat of Yuknoom Yich'aak K'ahk' of Calakmul, the strongest Mayan ruler then by his rival Tikal in 695 AD.
Stuart quoted “This period of political disruption in Maya provoked the king to call for a larger time cycle that supposedly ends in 2012”. Cuanto added “ In such critical times, ancient Mayans used their calender to promote continuuity and not for the promotion of apocalypse”.
