Cruelty against women has never been eradicated even after decades of Independence in the country and the fact that the so called Panchayats are also involved in such inhumane acts is unbelievable. Recently a woman was forced to strip naked in the public, tied up and beaten up. To add to this insult he head was also shaven. This incident happened in Udaipur of Rajasthan and the punishment was ordered upon her by the Panchayat of the village.

This was her punishment for an extra-marital affair with a man in the neighborhood after he had eloped with him. The couple who run away were spotted by their families and brought back to be punished by the Panchayat.
The police of the village tried to interrupt but the locals hurled stones at them. The tension still prevails in the situation but the couple are now safe in their custody.
