Pranab Mukherjee who emerged victorious after the president elections on Monday said that he could not comment on the clemency plea of Afzal Guru who was responsible for the Parliament attack in 2001.  He said that he needed to study the case after he would assume office.

The swearing in ceremony for Pranab Mukherjee after which he would officially be the 13th President of India would be held on Wednesday. He had won with almost 70% of majority grabbing more the 7.14 lakh votes while P A Sangma had a little over 3.16 lakh votes.

Responding to the Shiv Sena Supremo Raj Thackeray's request he said that he could look into the matter only after assuming office. Shiv Sena has supported the candidature of Pranab in the Presidential elections.

He also said that he was extremely happy to see people rooting for him regardless of the party they belong to and he had considered it as a reward he earned with his long service. He said that he would be "everybody's" president.

Mukherjee will take oath on Wednesday before assuming the office of President of India and moving into Rashtrapati Bhavan.
