CITU Transport strike called off

Biman Basu, the Left front chairman, has requested the CITU to call off their strike and they readily agreed to call off the strike on July 31, on Sunday.

The strike was called off by the private bus operators on the same day. Chief Minister Mamata Banarjee has earlier threatened the drivers to cancel thier licenses if they joined the strike and also the permits of the buses.

Citu president Shyamal Chakraborty on Sunday afernoon had officially stated that they had calle off the strike after the Left Front Chairman Biman Basu had asked them to withdraw the strike. He has also clarified that they, the trade wing had not been intimidated by the threat by Banarjee and that is no the reason for them calling off the strike.

Some politicians however opine that the CPM state secretariat members pondered over the issue and deemed that it would not bear a right impact on the public if the strike is conducted during the month of Ramzan.
