14-yr-old gang raped

In yet another gory incident, which question the safety to sisters, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly gang raped by three unidentified persons in a moving car in Nashik of Maharashtra. The girl, who belonged to ninth standard was picked up at Chetna Nagar area in the city on Wednesday evening forcibly. She was then subjected to rape. After insulting the dignity of the girl, the trio left her from the pick-up spot. She was even threatened of dire consequences had she informed this to police or anyone.

After two days of silence, the girl finally narrated the horrifying episode to her younger sister, who in turn told her parents. The worried parents immediately approached the police. A case was registered after the girl was sent to a medical examination.

Mahatma Gandhi apparently said true freedom would be considered when a woman can boldly walk in streets in mid-nights but even after India completed 65 years of independence, forget about woman, even girls are unable to walk in streets. Such barbarous acts not only reflect the degrading morals in the society but question the responsibility of the government. Is it because minors don't have right to vote that they are being totally neglected by the governments, question several women rights' activists and pro-feminist writers. Governments should now at least wake up and take stringent action against beasts lest such incidents repeat.
