After a weak monsoon since the beginning of June, Vasai had been doused in rain following heavy rainfall since the midnight of Monday.
The region registered jut 1,044 mm rainfall since the beginning of the season in June. According to the souces and statistics of last year by this time the dams were all overflowing with water received from the rains while the picture is far from bright this season as they have only 60% of the water below the normal level.
Bringing relief to the farmers of the region, heavy showers have blessed the area preventing the wells and lakes from drying up completely.
Instructions to use water sparingly had been issued to all households. There is water shortage in several housing societies.
Surya Dam the major water supplier to the area had reached 39% of its drawing capacity. By last year's August the dam, which has a capacity of 100mld of water, was overflowing with water.
Usagaon and Pelhar Dam had also reached their drawing capacities and they can only be saved if the monsoon showers prevent them from depleting. They both supply 20 mld and 10 mld respectively to the region.
