Congress accuses BJP for consenting riots

Congress had jumped out at the opportunity to attack the opposition BJP and silence them as the General-Secretary of the Congress, Digvijaya Singh said that the involvement of BJP in the riots was "evident" accusing the leaders and officials of the party.

Singh said that BJP could not be oblivious of the riots beginning and the consent of Modi.  He asked,  "Kodani or any other person... who would have done it without Chief Minister's permission?". He asked that the intelligence agencies look deeper into this issue and ensure that the Chief Minister is answerable. He called for a speedy justice in the case. "It is clear that the minister and others acted under the behest of the Chief Minister because no minister would get involved in mass crime until they have the consent of the chief minister", he said.

Following the verdict Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid expressed his happiness over the verdict that justice was served though it took some time. However he made a diplomatic sweep at Modi, playing the safe game, as he said he was not willing to mix politics in the issue but he also said that there would be doubts raised on the moral issues often raised.
"Maya Kodnani was not a minister when the incident happened. We are not denying that she is an MLA from the party now. But an MLA is not a state government functionary," Narayan Vyas, the spokesperson of Gujarat government however defended Modi on the issue of his resignation.
