In a relatively silent operation, 11 men were arrested in Karnataka after they were allegedly involved in anti-national activities and had terror links. They were taken to a magistrate court last night which had pronounced a 14 day custody with the police.
The details of their roles are now being cleared up slowly. Among the arrested M Siddiqui, the 27-year-old journalist was the 'mastermind'. The police have reasons to believe that he was person who identified high profile personalities to target.
They said that being a journalist he had the contacts and access to learn about the targets easily than others. Also the calles he made to the others in the 60 days included all those arrested confirming that he was guilty.
Yesterday, the Director General of Police told the media that the weapons and other material were seized from the all the arrested, which further strengthened the plans of the group to make bigger attacks in the state.
Investigations are on to confirm that the conversations would match with one particular terror group.
Arrest of a 26-year junior researcher at the DRDO, Ejaz Mirza was another high profile arrest. However since he worked only as the airborne early warning system control wing of the DRDO for six months and not other sensitive departments there was no threat to the organization.
Mirza's role in the plot is being pondered as there were many conversations taped between Mirza and Siddiqui.
The third person arrested is 27 year MBBS doctor who was picked up at Hubli.
Police are now reluctant to reveal any information until the investigations complete.
