Pak editor beaten up for watching TV

An unfortunate Pakistani editor of a leading English Daily in the nation was beaten for watching TV and listening to music at his home in Karachi, Pakistan.

The incident occurred almost a week ago on August 27. The op-ed editor of The News Daily had also made a complaint registered at the police but the authorities decided to stay mum on the issue, according to several journalists in the city. The proselytizing group members, four of them, had beat the journalist right outside his home.

According to Abedin, they barged into his house, kicking the gate open, at Gulshan-e-Iqbal area at 11 pm on August 27 and began to abuse him. He was surrounded on all the sides and grabbed when he tried to talk to them. One member had objected to the music (qawwalis) and watching TV.

He was beaten after he inquired who they were and why they wanted to object his privacy. They puched him in the face and broke his glasses. They had not stopped until he had pleaded that he would not watch TV or play music.
