A part of a Metro bridge which was being constructed in the suburban Andheri region had collapsed acidentally in which there were at least eight people injured. The 50 meter section of the Andheri Ghatkopar bridge had crashed at 4:30 pm today according to Mumbai news.
Two ambulances and two fire engines had rushed to the site of the accident as the firefighters had scurried at the site in attempts to help the people injured and also shift the debris of the accident to uncover the trapped victims if any.
Injured people were already shifted to the Seven Hills Hospital. According to the evidence from the eyewitnesses there could be several others trapped. A large spiked metal mesh is to be removed to find out the complete details of the casualties at the site.
Gathered crowd had been a obstacle to speedy clearance of the debris. Authorities are losing time trying to keep the people away from the site. Process of clearing up is also being hastened as nightfall would be a greater hurdle in safely rescuing the trapped people. The road was blocked with the cranes coming into the site to help in clearing. This part of the overhead metro bridge is on the crowded Andheri-Kurla road that leads to the airport and the collapse is expected to cause traffic pile-ups in this business area. This is also peak time for road traffic in Mumbai.
The Mumbai rains could have caused a great trouble in the past two days with trains delayed and traffic moving at snails pace. The inclement weather in Mumbai yesterday had resulted in a landslide in Chembur.
