The death toll in Sivakasi fire explosion has mounted to 30 while the injured persons were reported to be 70. The police sources said that several others were feared trapped inside the fire works factory where the explosion took place. Fire tenders, which were pressed into action at around 2.15 pm were still busy trying to douse the fire. Even after an hour of fire fighting, the situation reportedly didn't come under the control.

The police said that the fire fighters could not enter the building since there were possibilities of further explosions. The death toll may further increase as the officials are yet to enter the premises. It may be noted that a major explosion took place at Om Siva Sakthi Crackers in Sivakasi district. Since Diwali season is round the corner, works were going on in full swing at the factory and the sources said that the accident might have taken place only because of the speed of the work.
