Delhi shooting: woman shot to restore marriage

The gunman who shot the victim, Meenakshi Rana, the mother of a four year old traveling in a rickshaw to the child's school was identified to be the brother of the woman's husband's first wife. Meenakshi's husband, Parwinder Rana, had initially married the assailant's sister but had given up the first marriage a few years ago before he had married Meenakshi.

However he later reconciled with the first wife and decided to live with both the women. Sundeep had warned the husband to give up his second marriage and lead a proper life with his sister, the legal wife. He had not complied to his demands and this led to the extreme step of murdering and eliminating the second wife, Meenakshi.

Sandeep had open fired at Meenakshi on a busy road of Rohini, North-west Delhi. Meenakshi had tried to dodge the bullets and hid behind the cars and trees after he started firing at her. He had shot six bullets as three of them had landed on target, killing her.

Sandeep was on a motorcycle when the incident took place. The police interrogated over 40 of the rickshaw drivers at the site of murder before their identified the one hired by her at Rohini. The auto driver had identified Sandeep after the police tracked him to his residence based on his number plate details revealed by the drivers. The driver of Meenakshi's rickshaw had also confirmed the identity.
