Only a day after a Deputy Collector and his aide were arrested for taking a bribe or Rs 2 Lakh, the ACB promptly had raided the house of the deputy collector which revealed that he had Rs 1.79 crore worth unaccounted money stashed at home.
After being posted in the tenancy branch of the district collectorate of Pune, Kiran Mahajan and his aide Randive had been caught red-handed after they were accepting a bribe from Sandeep Gawde in a sting operation conducted by the ACB following the complaint from Gawde who had been asked for a Rs 2 lakh bribe when he had submitted documents for the sanction of the purchase of a land of 10 acres in Khand Village in Mulshi Taluka.
Later, Gawde lodged a complaint with the ACB following which a trap was laid and the duo were caught accepting the bribe.
ACB conducted raids at Mahajan's flat in Pashan and seized Rs 24.24 lakh in cash and three fixed deposits worth Rs 44 lakh. They also recovered seven property documents of Rs 76 lakh, gold and silver ornaments and other valuables. The total value of all the assets were valued at Rs 1.79 crores.
