On Tuesday, there were three more recorded deaths from Scrub Typhus at the Indira Gandhi Medical College, IGMC, in Shimla. This takes the toll to 8 in less than a month already and of the eight people seven were women who fell victim to the deadly Scrub Typhus. On Wednesday it was reported that there were at least 16 cases which tested positive for the Scrub Typhus at IGMC. At present there are 131 patients at IGMC to be treated for Scrub Typhus.
Three patients died on Monday at the IGMC but the cause of the death was confirmed on Tuesday as Scrub Typhus. All three Bilaspur residents had high body temperatures and had been admitted only a week ago at the IGMC prior to which they had received treatment elsewhere in Bilaspur.
Most deaths have been observed in Bilaspur district while the most number of cases were reported from Shimla, especially the rural areas.
Until today, two deaths were reported from Shimla district and four from Bilaspur district, and one patient was from Mandi.
