English Vinglish movie has received great acclaim at the screening in Toronto, which has overwhelmed Sri Devi who has made her comeback to the industry after 16 years. Her last film Judaai was a family drama and a sensational hit. But has she lost tune with acting?
For such great artists, acting is an inborn virtue. You can never perform bad in such cases. Sri Devi, an actress who could run the movies in her era single handed, has managed to achieve that feat again. The protagonist of the movie is a caring mother, a good wife and also a humble student. Faced with criticism from her own daughter that she could not speak English properly, she takes it up as a challenge to learn the language and the humor and the drama that ensue form the story. But if you need better details watch this space for the English Vinglish Review.
Critics at the screening said that the movie was well composed and perfectly balanced. The movie is not preachy, the acting is undoubtedly excellent and the story fares well on all aspects. As writer and director Gauri Shinde’s first film, English Vinglish is remarkable.
With the current trend of movies being so monotonous a few movies like Paan Singh Tomar, Kahaani, Vicky Donor, GOW 1 and 2, Barfi!, OMG - Oh My God! and now English Vinglish which have been away from the common concept of the same old love story told differently have to be appreciated. Mainstream, and highly predictable movie lovers should not watch English Vinglish you might be disappointed to see a movie that is different.
