Sunday River Ski Resort in Maine has organized a bizarre race with an equally bizarre prize as well. The race was named North American Wife Carrying Championship and just as the name says you have to run the race carrying your wife on your back. A Finnish couple have won the game after successfully completing the race in 52.58 seconds.
Taisto Miettinen and Kristina Haapanen traveled from Helsinki, Finland and then they had won the World Wife Carrying Championship - for Saturday's contest. The course included not just flat paths but a few hurdles, sand traps and also a water hole to take the difficulty a bit higher.
And coming to the queer prize they won, it was beer that matched the woman's weight and money five times her weight. The Finnish couple took home a check of $530 and gladly shared the beer with the other winners Jesse Wall and Christine Arsenault of South Paris and David and Lacey Castro of Lewiston who finished second and third respectively.
