Militant gunmen had wounded a teenage Pakistani children's right activist on Tuesday after she boarded a school bus in Swat, which was once the stronghold of Taliban.
Malala Yousafzai, 14, was extremely popular after her efforts to highlight the atrocious activities of Swat by means of blogging for the BBC. This earned her international recognition after which she was awarded the first ever peace prize by the government of Pakistan last year. She was also a nominee for the International Children's Peace Prize by advocacy group KidsRights Foundation in 2011.
A police official mentioned that the shooting took place after two gunmen open fired on her while she was getting onto a school bus. Two of her friends were also injured in the open fire.
The girl was taken to Peshawar for treatment and removal of the bullets that hit her forehead and neck. Her condition was stable but she is still inconscious.
