A sting operation recently has revealed that Salman Khurshid the Union Law Minister, Salman Khurshid was the chairman of a NGO which had allegedly forged the signatures of Uttar Pradesh government officials and embezzled several lakh rupees.
This news had caught the attention of the India Against Corruption leader, Arvind Kejriwal who has now pointed the turret at Khursid and his wife. He demanded that his wife who is the chief functionary of the Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust, the NGO in discussion, be arrested immediately. He also demanded the resignation of Salman Khurshid.
The NGO receives funding from several ministries in Uttar Pradesh and uses the funds to help the physically challenged members in UP. Union Ministry of Justice has recently raised several questions against the NGO which led to an inquiry being ordered against it.
Mr Kejriwal said, "We demand an urgent FIR. His wife who is the project director should be arrested. Because they are a powerful family, they will destroy evidence and put pressure on witnesses." He also expressed grief at the country's state of affairs with a law minister and a NGO head who was corrupt. He sought immediate resignation from the Union Law Minister.
He also ordered an FIR and follow up on the inquiry, taking a dig at Akhilesh Yadav, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister. He questioned, "If this doesn't happen, does it mean the Centre is helping Mulayam and vice-versa?" Mulayam Singh Yadav is already under the lens of CBI which is probing a few corruption cases against the Samajwadi Party leader.
