Cabinet Reshuffle: Recent developments

The Cabinet Reshuffle has been confirmed to take place at 11:30 am tomorrow at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan, the spokesperson Venu Rajamony said today. Five ministers have quit their positions as cabinet ministers to accommodate fresh faces into the cabinet. This reshuffle would be the last before the Lok Sabha elections which would be held in 2014.

Ministers who quit:

Andhra Pradesh MP Samba Shiva Rao

Subodh Kant Sahai resigns as Tourism Minister

SM Krishna resigns as External Affairs Minister.

Social Justice and Empowerment  Minister Mukul Wasnik and Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni resign

Ministers who may be upgraded:

Minister of State for Mines Dinsha Patel

Minister of State for Agriculture Harish Rawat to be upgraded

Pradeep Balmuchu is also likely to be upgraded (Member of Rajya Sabha, Jharkhand)

KH Muniyappa may be upgraded

Kamal Nath may get Parliamentary Affairs Ministry,

Younger ministers like Sachin Pilot, Milind Deora and Jyotiraditya Scindia might hold higher positions

Minister of State for HRD, Purandeshwari, might be upgraded.

Commerce Minister Anand Sharma might replace SM Krishna

Probable Fresh Inductions: 

Ajay Maken likely to join Cabinet

Rahul Gandhi's larger role probable.

Actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi for tourism ministry.

Killi Kruparani, Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy, Balaram Naik, Sarvey Satyanarayana (all MPs from Andhra Pradesh) have a shot at the Cabinet Ministries

Dual Portfolios:

Kapil Sibal: HRD, Telecom

Veerapa Moily: Power, Corporate Affairs

Salman Khurshid: Law & Justice, Minority Affairs

Anand Sharma: Commerce, Textiles

Vayalar Ravi: Overseas Affairs, Science and Technology, Micro small and Medium enterprises

Pawan Bansal: Parliamentary Affairs, Water Resources

CP Joshi: Railways, Road Transport and Highways, CP Joshi is expected to retain Railway Ministry.

Manish Tewari will remain Congress spokesperson.  The ministry is currently headed by Pawan Kumar Bansal.
