Railways are probably trying to better their ticketing system which is currently prone to several ways of misuse which may also pose a security threat. On Thursday, the railways has decided to ensure that the travel is limited to bonafide passengers by making it compulsory for a passenger to carry his proof of identity at all times. According to the new rule, regardless of any class you choose to travel in, you should carry an ID proof if you are traveling on a reserved ticket. The change will come into effect from December 1, according to a ministry statement.
Earlier the rule was applicable to all the passengers traveling on Tatkal tickets and AC classes but now to ensure better travel amenities, the ministry had made the new decision.
As a good news for the travelers, the number of proofs that have been accepted by the government have also been increased for further convenience as the new list includes photo identity cards having serial numbers issued by public sector undertakings of state/central government, district administration, municipal administration and panchayat administration.
