On Tuesday, the Supreme Court observed that the Union Government had plans for another round of auction for the remaining 2G spectrum that was not auctioned, in March. It has warned that further rounds could lead to several complications and commotion. It also asked the government why there was a part of the spectrum held back from the auction on November 12.
A bench of Justices G S Singhvi and K S Radhakrishnan told that they had learned through media that the government had plans to hold another round of the 2G spectrum auction in March next year. While acknowledging that the media reports could have been wrong, they cautioned government that if these reports were true, there would be several complications involved.
It is known that the response to the spectrum auction that has held on November 12 to re-issue the canceled licenses, 122 of them in 22 telecom services, government has admitted that they had held back a portion of the spectrum to be auctioned later. The apex court was not pro this decision since any part of the spectrum if held back would mean a clear violation of the February 2 judgment on the issue.
