The elections to 95 assembly constituencies in Gujarat, which started this morning, have concluded. The fate of as many as 820 candidates was sealed in the EVMs at 23,318 polling booths covering 12 districts. These elections would also decide the fate of the chief minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi, who exercised his franchise in the morning. In case, BJP emerges victorious then Narendra Modi would become the chief minister for the third consecutive time in Gujarat. Notably, this is the second phase of elections while the first phase elections were conducted on December 13.
After casting his vote, Narendra Modi tweeted stating that he had cast his vote and exuded confidence that he would retain the power. On the other hand, Congress had been trying its best to come to power in Gujarat. Over the same, Rahul Gandhi too-for the first time-plunged into election campaign in Gujarat recently.
Congress has reportedly now kept its fingers crossed. For the 95 seats, BJP fielded all 95 candidates while Congress fielded 92 candidates and left three constituencies for its ally NCP. By 3 pm, nearly 55 per cent voting was recorded.
